By Lisa Kennedy. Why stay in your lane when you can veer into other roadways with your own turbo-charged vehicles? As is his intriguing way, however, Perry delivers some grace notes with the casting. Crystal Fox is especially compelling when playing the title character in her jailhouse state, defeated and shell-shocked.

Eric Kohn. A trashy Hitchcockian riff designed to make its audience laugh out loud at every ludicrous twist, the movie turns on a peculiar miscarriage of justice and bizarre courtroom theatrics that make your average legal thriller look like Shakespeare. Shot in five days last December — because why not? Needless to say, Jasmine has reasons for concern — but Perry saves most of them for a jam-packed finale with enough outrageous revelations to fuel a few franchises. Things go wrong. Very wrong. But oh, those twists. A modern-day William Castle, his work suggests greater willingness to pull the strings than to waste much time rigging them up. Scene after scene has been primed for audience reactions.
This is what you want from Perry, though, as writer, director, producer and co-star. A law-abiding, God-fearing woman is wronged, and she summons the strength to make things right. The perpetrator is a handsome man who, inevitably, will end up shirtless. But first, the movie begins abruptly with a literal fall. A distraught, elderly woman plunges to her death from a rooftop, with negotiators and police unable to stop her. The deeper Jasmine digs into the facts of the case with Grace, the more questions she has about what really happened. Perry flashes back and forth between these jailhouse interviews and the whirlwind romance the divorced, middle-aged Grace enjoyed with the hunky, much younger and now-deceased Shannon Mehcad Brooks. The underlying theme is more complicated than the treatment it gets here. And yet, Perry still insists on giving the people what they want—thankfully.
